Stress or Success or what color is peach?

So you decided to hire graphic designer. You browsed portfolios,
read the reviews and made ur choice. What's next? Here are some tips
on how to make working with a designer most productive for both of you.

1.Will do or won't?

For example you want to put your own portrait on your logo. You do not
have a sketch and you would like the logo designer to draw it.
Will be able your designer to do this? Please, discuss this in advance.
Before you place the order and paid for the upcoming services.
A decent designer never promises to do something that can not be done.
Otherwise you can safely make a complaint. Evidence of fraud you have (save your correspondence then you will have the fraud proof).
But it works the best way if you negotiate all the details before you place the order,
as mentioned above. Why? Read on

2. What will i pay for?

You pay not only for the result, but also for the process.

For example, you want a lotus flower on your logo. The designer draws it but you do not approve.
Designer draws another - no. Draws another 10 - you do not like one.
Pls note, i'm not talking about poor quality work! In this case you just can not choose the appropriate option for some reasons.
And it can last as long as you want...
As a result, you are not satisfied with any option and you want refund. Motivating: I did not get the desired result.
Sorry but for the time spent and work done (even if it did not suit you) you will have to pay.
In order to avoid such troubles carefully study the designer's portfolio,
read reviews from previous customers,
discuss all the details of the work to be done before placing an order.

Another example: "I just need a couple of icons, this is a 10 minute job. Pay for what??"
Let me answer with a quote "You pay me not for 10 minutes of work,
but for the years during which i learned to do this work for 10 minutes." I hope it is clear.

Another example: "I just can not decide on the color. Can I get advice from you for free?"
Yes, as soon as i retire i will be happy to chat with you.

And always remember this axiom: respect the time and work of others.

 3. What color is peach?

Be very clear. Avoid phrases like "i want something peach color."
So what color is peach? You say "pink", one designer will say "beige-pink", I say "yellow-pink". Yes Yes. I see it that way.
Actually the real peach color is

Called PeachPuff hex code #ffdab9

So how to avoid misunderstanding and waste of time?
There are two solutions.
First: you provide the designer with a hex code or color image.
Second: you completely trust the designer and look at the world through his/her eyes. The decision is yours.
This not only for color. The same about the choice of font (as an expample).
You say "I want something romantic look." But what is romantic for you and what is romantic for your designer?
Solution: you provide with samples or a font name. Or the second, as described above.

4. Stress or success?

Let's say you just can't decide. Geometry or watercolor, script or sherif, minimalism or boho, blue or pink, deer or bear and so on.
You looked at a million images, but you still haven’t decided what your brand design should be. What to do? Trust the designer? Finally decide on your design youself?
Or is it to develop the design together with the designer completely guiding the process?
The first way: there are risks. You were delighted with the portfolio,
you were impressed by feedback from previous work, but this is still no guarantee that the designer will correctly
recognize your preferences. For example in the designer’s view the flower shop’s logo
should be enclosed in a minimalist circle-wreath.
But you were hoping to see your logo in vintage style, just could not decide right away.
the designer made the decision for you, but you didn't like it. Time and money is wasted.
The second way: the most optimal. See, think, advise, try, decide. No need to hurry.
Find several options (not a hundred, but several), discuss them and come to a decision before the designer starts working.
Here is the example of the best personalization "I would like a logo in a minimalist style.
The brand name is calligraphic font, tag line is sherif.
In the background is a pale pink watercolor circle or splash.
I like these fonts .... and this is the color .... here are the logos that inspire me ... etc"
third way: the worst. To completely manage the design process
is to steal time from yourself and from the designer.
To make the designer create dozens of logo samples so that you can
decide what you want, describe the font and colors in words,
ask to make the black "blacker" and the circle "less round". Doing it for a weeks - this is a failure.
As a result, both of you get tired, lose interest and motivation and as a result the conflict may arise.

5. Learn to listen

Remember, you hired a designer. Its not a silent photoshop user who will execute your commands with no question.
If designer tells you that red is the color of the alarm and is not quite
suitable for the insurance company logo - listen.
If designer says that the pale blue is not visible on white - listen.
If designer claims that these two fonts are not combined - listen.
If you are not ready to listen to tips and recommendations, please use one of the many applications
to create a logo yourself.

6.Just a human after all

Design is a creative process. Creativity has no time frame.
This does not mean that creating a logo or a design project can take forever.
But it does not mean that if you urgently need a ready-made design by tomorrow
the designer is ready to make it today, having 2 liters of coffee without dining and not going to bed.
We are all just a humans, pls keep it in mind.
Discuss in advance when you need a finished project, but be realistic and humanist.

And remember the saying "How shall i to do it, quickly or well?"

Summarizing: be careful, be patient, be specific and clean, learn to listen, be realistic and humane and keep each other happy.
